Dr. Wachters’ Story
The story of the founding of Wachters’ Organic Sea Products continues to inspire everyone who uses Wachters’ supplements. Our hero, Joseph V. Wachter, then a young Viennese pianist, was cured by sea vegetation and went on to create a unique company which follows his original formulas.
On a concert tour after World War I against medical advice, Wachter collapsed on stage from tuberculosis during a performance in Hungary. He was given a few months to live.
Young Wachter chose one last adventure, shipping off to the Alaskan wilderness of the Yukon. When he reached Alaska, he was in a state of complete collapse and the end seemed near. There he met Jack London, the famed American author, who introduced him to the healing ways of the Inuit Eskimos, the Tlinglits.
Using a variety of poultices, teas and potions all containing sea vegetation, the Inuits kept the Austrian in their care. Within six months, he was completely cured of his tuberculosis and had regained his strenght. Soon Wachter was sufficiently strong to walk - yes, walk - from Nome, Alaska, to New York City - a trip of over 10,000 miles!
Still in search of his dream, he performed across America to pay for his journey to San Francisco. Along the way, he gathered health information from a variety of healers.
Shortly thereafter Dr. Wachter founded Wachters' Organic Sea Products, after developing the meticulous manufacturing process that is still being used today.
Unlike most companies, Wachters' uses the original cold tablet presses which generates no heat or moisture. This slow process is used to keep the "life" in the sea plants and other ingredients. The delicate enzymes and nutrients in the sea plants are preserved. Using the highest quality sun-dried sea vegetation from around the world as the foundation, Wachters' chooses pharmaceutical grade vitamins, minerals and herbs.
By 1932, this tireless enterprising pianist, now Doctor Wachter, had translated the healing knowledge of the Inuits and other Native American healers into a vision of his own company in California with its first product - dried sea vegetation packets sold door-to-door by his young sons.
